Astarte Fresh-Faced New User Middlesbrough, UK	Hi All, I've made some leaps and bounds with my painting recently (yes, I discovered water ...) but now I'm struggling with the highlight/detail work due to the 'awesomeness' that is GW paintbrushes. I've read several glowing reviews of the brushes in the thread title, both here and elsewhere, and I'm totally psyched up to spend more than 3 pounds on a brush (go team Me!). My problem is that while I reside in the country of manufacture my poverty stricken, pseudo-redneck excuse for a hobo-town in the arm pit of the anus of the country, doesn't appear to sport a single art store carrying these articles. Getting to the point, I need the voice of experience to guide my internet purchase regarding sizes. I'm looking to get a couple of brushes to begin with and I'm principally painting spess mehren squads at the moment. Ideally I need a size to deal with the main bulk of the armour (while still allowing enough accuracy to avoid recesses) and then a brush to handle the fine highlights. All advice appreciated.

legoburner [ADMIN] Da Big Mek London, UK	Series 7, the best brushes are: 1 0 00 in that order. Anything else would get used rather infrequently. For large blocking (tanks, etc) it is better to just get a big, cheap brush. Size 1 and Size 0 you will use 99% of the time, the 00 will allow you to do eyeballs and things like that. You can get a 000 instead of a 00 too, but the point is so good you can get away with using a 0 on most extreme detail things. So in summary, Size 1 for big/most stuff, Size 0 for detail/fiddly bits. 00 or 000 if you want to do some extreme detailing.

I understand the 'miniature' is referring to water colour paintings not our hobby, but which ones should I be buying? The 'miniature' ones seem to have a shorter hair length ... HALP!

Laughing Man Master Tormentor St. Louis	I honestly would suggest getting a 1 or a 2. The point is pretty much identical on all of them, you're really just changing up how large your reservoir is, assuming your brush control is decent. I use my 1 for pretty much everything I do, down to painting pupils, and I'm considering upgrading to a 2. Of course, if your brush control isn't decent, getting Series 7s won't help you much anyway.

legoburner [ADMIN] Da Big Mek London, UK	Dont get the miniature ones. They dont hold as much paint so it dries on the brush much faster and is harder to control.

legoburner [ADMIN] Da Big Mek London, UK	I've never used it and my brushes are 5 years old and almost as good as new. Just never get paint up to the top of the bristles and you'll be fine. Use thinned paints, lots of water and clean them frequently while using them so that nothing dries high up on the brush.

chromedog Anti-Armour Swiss Guard Newcastle, OZ	Other tips. Use a different brush (or brushes) for metallics and non-metallics. Use a different water jar (as above). The fewer sparkly marines out there, the better.
